GATE 2028 Eligibility Criteria: Age Limit, Qualification & Nationality
Before submitting the application form, candidates should check the eligibility requirements for GATE 2028. Students who are currently studying in the 3rd year or above of an undergraduate degree programme, or candidates who have already completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities, can appear for the examination.
There is no age limit for GATE 2028. Candidates from India and other countries can also apply, provided they fulfil the required academic conditions.
Professional Society Qualifications
Candidates who have completed examinations conducted by recognised professional societies in different branches of engineering may also be eligible.
Some of the professional societies include:
- Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
- Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
- Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
- Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Polymer and Environmental Group (IIChE)
- Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
- Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)
Candidates holding a qualification from any of these professional societies should ensure that the examination is recognised by MoE, AICTE, UGC, or UPSC as equivalent to qualifications such as B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch., B.Planning, or other applicable degrees.
Candidates With Qualifications From Outside India
Candidates who have obtained or are studying for their qualifying degree outside India can also appear for GATE 2028.
Such candidates must either be studying in the 3rd year or above or have completed a Bachelor’s degree of at least three years duration in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities.
Important Points
- Candidates pursuing a higher degree or already holding a qualification higher than the one listed below can also appear for GATE 2028.
- Candidates with a 3-year B.Sc., B.A., or B.Com. degree can appear for GATE and may seek admission to Master’s programmes at IITs and IISc, according to the admission requirements of the respective programme.
